For the longest time, Chick-Fil-A has been the go-to restaurant for chicken sandwiches. However, on August 12, 2019, Popeyes became a fierce competitor. People were willing to wait hours for a chicken sandwich and fights even emerged from the new craze. As Popeyes chicken sandwiches increased in popularity, a heated debate emerged on social media about whether the Popeyes chicken sandwich or the Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich is better. Intrigued by the competition, I wanted to go check it out for myself.
Hearing that customers had to wait for three hours for one chicken sandwich, I was lucky that I only had to wait for thirty minutes. I bought two chicken sandwiches, regular and spicy. Examining the sandwiches, I automatically noticed the size of the chicken; the chicken was double the thickness of Chick-Fil-A’s. Starting off with the regular Popeyes chicken sandwich, I was underwhelmed. It tasted exactly like the Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich. However, when I tried the spicy chicken sandwich, my opinion completely changed. I was greeted with a crispy outer layer and juicy chicken. The spicy chicken sandwich hit all the components of a great sandwich; it had a crispy and juicy chicken that was completed with a soft brioche bun, pickles, and spicy mayo sauce.
The enthusiasm regarding Popeyes chicken sandwich is understandable. With Chick-Fil-A pricing their sandwich at $3.05 and Popeyes charging $3.99, I would say that Popeyes is the better option. Not only do you get more chicken, but the quality is better too. However, if I am ever craving a chicken sandwich, I would not be willing to wait more than thirty minutes for one.
